The first Saturday in May is the official day for comic books. What is so great about this day is that comic books are given away for free. For the past seven years, participating stores have been giving out free comics; but only on this one Saturday a year. The purpose behind this day is to promote comics to kids. To keep the industry alive, we need the newest generations getting hooked on comics. Kids as young as two and three years old become interested in comics, even though they can’t read, because they are familiar with the action hero figures. More than likely, most kids have a superman or batman action figure and they can relate to the comics from looking at the pictures.
The comics given out are special issues. They are printed especially for Free Comic Book Day. They are printed differently than normal comics, and they don’t have a barcode on them. Also, most of the comic books handed out have Free Comic Book Day printed somewhere on the cover. At one store participating in the event, they have more than ten different comics to choose from that will be given out for free. This is made possible because each major comic publisher produces a free edition comic. For a comic book enthusiast, this once a year even is like Christmas for them. As many as twelve million comic books will be given out on Saturday.

William Shatner, one of the most memorable Star Trek actors, is taking part in the event. He has plans to announce the release of his own comic book series. He will be doing a comic book signing at a store in Los Angeles where they will be giving out free comics. William Shatner partnered with Bluewater Productions to create a 32 page comic to be given away for free in support of Free Comic Book Day. His series of science fiction comics is called Tek War, and the free comic given out is a prologue to the issue. Hugh Jackman, leading actor in the X-men series, is also promoting Free Comic Book Day. He is starring in the new release X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He believes that comics have the power to get kids to read. They are playing a large part in fighting illiteracy in our country.

Without comic book retailers, this world wide event wouldn’t be possible. They pay anywhere from 12 to 50 cents for each free edition comic book, and give them out to free for anyone who walks through their store.

These delightful stores are usually packed with many different types of comics. You will be able to find new comic book series as well as your current and old time favorites.

In many cases you will be able to get a good value for your money when you buy your comic books from comic book stores. When you are buying the various comic books that you want from these stores you should be able to see if the comic book is in good quality and if you are buying an undamaged comic book.
In some cases comic book stores can also have posters of favorite comic superheroes and super villains for sale. There will also be times when you will be informed of the upcoming releases of comic book action movie release like those of Spider Man and Superman.

As many people have a variety of interests in comic books you will be able to see various comic books on the shelves of the comic book stores. These comics will include Superman, Spider Man, Batman, Archie’s, Josie and the Pussycats, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Star Trek and Star Wars and many others.

In some comic book stores you will be able to find vintage comic books like Lulu, Betty Boop, Spawn, Wonder Woman, Phantom and lots of others. Some of these comic books will be in a very good condition as they may not be very well known by today’s comic book readers. In some instances you may be lucky enough to find some comic series early editions.

As these comics are difficult to find always you may want to see what the condition of the book is like. When you have checked the condition of the comic book you will need to see the price that your comic book store will charge you for these comics.

With first edition type of comic books you will have the chance to own a piece of comic book history. These are the reasons why buying your comics from different comic book stores is a great idea.

Besides these wonderful facts you may find other people who share your tastes. From these people you can broaden your horizons and see what other comic books you might like to read. The next time you have run out of reading material you might want to head over to your local comic book stores and see what you can discover in these different stores.

The Supernatural fan base is undeniably strong, and they serve as a good market for publishing companies who would like to release material on the Supernatural series. In fact, WildStorm released Supernatural: Origins comic book last year, and it was a fair success. This year, fans will again delight in another release, as Supernatural: Rising Son is coming soon. The new comic book is a six-issue miniseries that will tell another tale about the Winchester brothers. To be released on April 23, the series will follow a 7-year-old Sam and 11-year-old Dean as they travel with their father, John.

Writer Peter Johnson, who is also a co-executive producer on the TV show explained that this series focuses more on John and his dysfunctional family.

“We’re really going to explore the differences between Sam and Dean in this one,” Johnson added. “Dean is becoming aware of what his dad’s up to and we’ll see him training and hunting a little bit, while John will start to key in on something different about Sam.”

Despite being another Supernatural project, show creator Eric Kripke, who contributed hugely to the Origins project, was not present in any way in Rising Son, mostly due to the writers’ strike. Although the strike does not include comic book writers, Kripke saw the thin line between writing for the TV series and writing a comic book based on the series, and thus opted to not be part of it this time.

Johnson added that this action packed series includes familiar faces, creepier monsters, fighter ****** and a villain that may be part of the show itself. This will be one hell of a comic book for Supernatural fans to look out for, and just to add to the excitement, there is a third comic book in its conception stage. As for now, let’s await the release of Supernatural, Rising Son, on April 23.

President Barack Obama has just completed his first 100 days in the White House as President of the United States of America. He is not only popular among the public, he is also gracing the pages of comic books. Comics have been written about his life, his life as President so far, and his journey through the presidential candidacy. He has made short appearances in Spider Man and has even been the star character in a comic called Youngblood. I’m sure that he was excited to appear in Spider Man because he told people that he used to collect Spider Man comic books.

In the Youngblood comic book, Barack Obama was a tough guy character. He character even carried a gun throughout the comic story. The plot of the story was that the White House was under attack and President Barack Obama was on his own to defend it. His secret service men were shot and killed, which left him running for his life. Although he carries a gun on him, he never shoots the gun in the comic. He saves his own life by safely hiding under a large clock. A lot of readers thought this comic was very controversial simply because he was featured with a gun. However, the main idea of the story is that he defends the White House from the bad guys.

In a series of comic books by IDW Publishing, Presidential Material, he will also be featured. IDW Publishing has featured other political candidates in their comic book series such as John McCain. Last year, IDW publishing wrote comics during the height of the presidential campaign. The comic helped in the media frenzy that gained both Barack Obama and John McCain a lot of attention. The comics written about them were biographies. Having a comic book biography is a great way to get people who are interested in comics also interested in the presidential election. And it works the other way as; people who are really involved with the elections will start to like reading comics. The series during the election became so popular, especially about Barack Obama, that they printed five in the series. Now that Barack Obama is our President, the Presidential Material series will cover his life during the inauguration and his first 100 days in office.

President Barak Obama is comparable to superheroes we read in comics. He defends the nation while making sacrifices against his own life. He never stops working to protect us and do what’s best for us. That is the job of the President, and the more you read about superheroes, you will also know it’s their job to protect, defend and do what’s best for their cities.

Punk rocker Pete Wentz created a new comic book series that will be launched in September of this year. He has teamed up with Image Comics to produce the miniseries that will be called Fall Out Toy Works. Image Comics is one of the top three biggest publishers in the United States. The series will feature a robot maker, his robot named Tiffany, and a kid wearing a bear suit. The comic was inspired by his bands, Fall Out Boy, lyrics and ideas. The series, more specifically, is related to his song Tiffany Blews. Pete Wentz has big plans for his series. He is planning on using the series to create a starting point for a website, clothing, and toys based on Fall Out Toy Works. He is hoping that at the end of the miniseries, the comic will be considered a graphic novel.  

Pete Wentz is the bass guitarist and vocalist for the punk band Fall Out Boy. His talents are not limited just to music. His newest project is the comic book series, but he also works for MTV, is writing a book, and directs music videos. His creative mind is perfect for creating comic books. 

Another punk rocker, Gerard Way, is also involved with comics. He pens the series The Umbrella Academy which is partnered with Dark Horse Comics. His comic series is about a family who are extraordinary super humans and tells the story about them overcoming the dysfunctional childhood they had. They were born in order to save the world and conquer over the evil Black Orchestra. The main character is Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who is a famous scientist and inventor.

Gerard Way is the leading vocalist for the bad My Chemical Romance. His involvement and fascination with comic books isn’t new. He wrote his first comic when he was 16 years old. His comic book series, On Raven’s Wings, only produced two comics because he lost the art team shortly after. Luckily, The Umbrella Academy is doing well and has even won an Eisner Award. An Eisner Award is given out for great creative achievements.

It’s great to see famous punk rockers getting involved in the world of comics. Having high profiled figures will help expand the comic book market. Fans of the two bands could also become fans of comics. People’s perceptions about who reads and writes comics will also change. Anyone, even rock stars, can become involved with comics.
